Fall is one of my favorite times of the year. Here are lesson plans for your Scarecrow week. Reading, writing, math, treats and crafts make this easy for parents and fun for kids. I even have a free little file for you!
I love using Bill Martin’s Barn Dance for our scarecrow theme.
The Scarecrow’s Hat by Ken Brown
Scarecrow by Cynthia Rylant
Little Scarecrow Boy by Margaret Wise Brown
Patterns and Simple Addition
I use fall centers from The Mailbox for extending patterns and simple addition.
Math manipulatives can be found right outside your door! Use acorns for simple adding and subtracting.
Roll and Cover activities are also fun when they are fall themed.
Pocket Chart Sight Word Reading
This pocket chart activity is fun for reading and practicing sight words.
Scarecrow Art Project
Not much of an art teacher? Give the kids a bunch of materials and see what kind of scarecrow they can create!
Haystacks Cooking Activity
It’s no secret that I love to use cooking as part of our thematic units. These haystacks were easy and delicious!
The ingredients: Marshmallow Creme, La Choy Noodles, Peanut Butter, and Butterscotch Chips. Like the way this is going? Read more!
1 cup of butterscotch chips
1/2 cup of peanut butter
Put in the microwave for 1 minute.
Mix in some marshmallow creme, (be sure to lick the spoon) and the Chinese noodles. Scoop into haystacks onto a baking sheet. Let harden in the refrigerator.
It’s a winner!
