One of the most common questions I receive is “If you’re not using a math curriculum, how do you know what to teach?” My answer is always the same. I follow the state standards. Now, this may sound easy, but have you ever tried to read a math standard? It can make you cross-eyed and feeling like tossing the computer out the window. That’s why I’m making sure I keep this new Elementary Math App close at hand.
If you’re a teacher, parent, or tutor, it’s vital to know and understand the state standards. I have parents and teachers ask for tools and resources in helping them navigate their way through the objectives. Friends, the challenge of reading and interpreting those standards has now been lifted. A very friendly app is now available to help us make sense of the standards so we can focus on the strategies.
When I plan through the week, I always pull up the standards to see what skills I need to focus on. There are many times where I have to google the skill because I don’t understand the language. With the new app Exploring the Core, all I need to do is have my phone near by. This app even illustrates the skill so I’m not googling how to teach it. This is what I am most excited to find in this app. Math teaching visuals at my fingertips!
This app is simple enough for any parent to use with their kids during homework. All of the different math strategies are illustrated so you can help your child without becoming frustrated yourself. All you have to do is download the app from your app store.
How This App is a LifeSaver
Whether you’re a teacher, parent, or tutor, be sure you download this app this year. It will save you a lot of headaches. Take a look at this video to see just how easy and effective this app will be in planning, understanding, and teaching the core standards.
Teachers and homeschoolers can use this app to really focus on goals by creating stronger lessons to achieve success. This app will help teachers identify student achievement and keep tabs on progress made. Teachers will be able to better communicate areas of weakness to parents when objectives are not being met.
Parents will have a better understanding of what is being taught in the classroom. They’ll have the knowledge on how to help their child at home. This easy assessable tool will help bridge the gap between home and school and will help explain to parents the objectives their child will need to meet each year.
Now, where are the other subjects for common core? I have a feeling they’ll be out soon. If the creators of Exploring the Core can make math standards look this easy, I’m sure they can and will do the same for the ELA standards.
No more wandering around in the dark hoping to get it right. There is now a way to keep laser light focused on the objectives ahead.
