Last school year I wrote up a Short Vowel Word Work packet to provide fun and confidence to my reluctant writer.
This pack has been a great reinforcement for short vowel words! As with most short vowel lessons, we start out by introducing the Johnny Can Spell card to go along with the short vowel sound. We want kids to know the sound of each short vowel before doing any kind of seat work.
When students have been working as a whole group with the short vowel words, it’s time to begin practicing on their own. I love having kids work with their words. Here are a few examples.
Short a fill in the story and a spin a word game.
Stamp the letters to make the word.
After completing all the activities, we used the last page as a note booking assessment. It didn’t cause anxiety or fret, just confidence and fun!
I also want to mention this pack will be at a discounted sale for a limited time.
Here’s a peek at the lessons.
And a sample page.
