Hi Ho, Hi Ho! We’ve been working at LLCS for the past few weeks on skills surrounded in a fall theme. Today I’m sharing the lovely lessons the 3rd grade has been working on.
First off, I combined two units to create the perfect curriculum for them. The first one is my We’re Nutty for Fall mini unit that has a lot of writing and fun games and activities in it. Also included was Fall Vocabulary ELA packet April and I put together to provide a fun but rigorous vocabulary unit for our kiddos.
My 3rd grade loves to spell. (Well, one of them does) One of their favorite ways to practice any type of skill is by using a board game. I chose fall words and assigned a number to each card based on their difficulty level. The more challenging the word, the farther they get to move if the word is spelled correctly.
I know I’ve posted a lot about their fall themed multiplication file folder game, but it’s really something they love to play. This is often used for early morning games while we wait for other children to arrive.
We’ve also been working on division. Thanks to suggestions from other 3rd grade teachers, I used “The Doorbell Rang” and this FREEBIE found on TpT.
Of course, no day is complete without their morning spiral review questions off the board. They should be able to round numbers in their sleep by now.
Both of the fall units are chalk full of writing lessons. The first one was a compare and contrast letter about summer and fall.
Then we began writing reports about squirrels.
We reviewed Interrogative, Declarative, Exclamatory, and Imperative sentences with a fun hands-on sorting game. No worksheets please!
After completing vocabulary activities in our interactive notebooks and played a matching game we played another game called Vocabulary Scoot.
Not pictured: More wonderful lessons and activities that I failed to take pictures of!
- Reading: A nonfiction story about squirrels and a fable with comprehension questions.
- Virtue lessons: this is done as a whole group
- Spanish: whole group
And that’s what they’ve been up to the last several weeks!
